Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the socio-economic characteristics of fishing communities
in Kedung Cowek Sub-District, Surabaya, with main fishery resources dicreasingly.
These conditions affect the earnings of fishermen for their catch slightly. Kedung Cowek
is one of sub-district in Surabaya where the population is dominated by traditional
fishermen with their catch was dominated by pelagic fish (ex : bulu ayam fish, tembang
fish) and fish damersal (manyung fish, sebelah fish, and kakap fish). Production fish in
the fishing season will affect the marketing and processed depending on the order of
each fisherman. The location of the research choose with consideration that Kedung
Cowek sub-district is fostered by Hang Tuah University. This study used a survey
method with a structured interview techniques and use guide questionnaire as well as
direct observation. Characteristics of resources owned by fishermen are : has a boat
shaped like spoons or sharp, with a long-tail boat engine manifold. They solved the
problems when peak fishing season by each carrying two fishermen fishing gear.
